Occupational Therapy (OT), provides practical support to empower people to facilitate recovery and overcome barriers preventing them from doing the activities (or occupations) that matter to them. This support increases people's independence and satisfaction in all aspects of life.
"Occupation" as a term refers to practical and purposeful activities that allow people to live independently and have a sense of identity. This could be essential day-to-day tasks such as self-care, work or leisure.
Think about your day-to-day life; would you be able to cope or live fully if you didn’t have access to the internet? Or couldn’t get out of bed in the morning or make your lunch?
We work with adults and children of all ages with a wide range of conditions; most commonly those who have difficulties due to a mental health illness, physical or learning disabilities. OT’s can commonly work in a variety of settings including health organisations, social care services, housing, education, voluntary organisations or as independent practitioners.
OT’s play a critical role in helping people of all ages overcome the effects of disability caused by illness, ageing or accident so that they can carry out everyday tasks or occupations with the implementation of care, equipment, training, advice to name a few.
Our OT, Laura Myers, has over 18 years experience working in the NHS and private sectors. Laura has been able to evolve her approach and understanding through her varying roles, and now solely practices with private Clients.
Laura has a special interest in sensory integration, manual handling, progressive and structured therapy planning, equipment and minor to major adaptations.
At LMOTCM, we are often asked to undertake seating and wheelchair assessments. Our approach to these is to carry out a full and detailed assessment with the client, their families and support staff, with no time limits, and to then provide a report of findings and recommendations.
The unique part of this service is that we are not in any way affiliated or tied to any manufacturer or supplier, anywhere in the world. We believe that this enables us to be unbiased is our assessment and allows us to reach out to every available and appropriate option.
Our assessor, Ric Syphas, has spent 13 years in the seating and mobility industry, working for several leading companies and manufacturers in the UK and The Netherlands.
These include Supportec NL, Consolor Ltd, Wealden Rehab, BOSS Seating Ltd and JCM Seating UK.
Ric has been able to tailor his experience in assessing NHS and private clients for wheelchairs and bespoke/tailored and standard seating solutions, to providing a comprehensive offering to LMOTCM clients.
His main philosophy is is to ensure that every recommendation is uncompromised and meets the needs of not only our clients, but their surrounding family, support staff and lifestyle.
Ric declares himself as a perfectionist and this is reflected in his work. Here’s what he says about the work he does:
“I love what I do, every aspect of it, and I am immensely proud of the impact our work has on the many people we work with. I have learnt over the years, that there are so many things to consider when assessing for mobility and seating, and there is never 1 solution. This is why by being completely independent, I am am able to have full scope on the industry and its offerings and get the very best and most appropriate results
Every day is a challenge, and one that I fully embrace and treat in exclusivity.”
LMOTCM’s Case Management services are designed to maximise and accelerate recovery for those who have sustained serious and life changing injuries.
All of our assessments and rehabilitation plans strictly follow the Rehabilitation Code of Ethics, as as part of our processes our Case Managers will identify the most appropriate and cost effective strategies to fulfil the proposed rehab plan.
We will always seek to access the NHS services before employing private treatment providers, and the Case Manager that carries out the initial assessment and designs the rehab plan will see it through to fruition, which gives both clients and stakeholders continuity and peace of mind.
All of LMOTCM’s Case Managers are CMSUK registered, and where applicable are also HCPC registered. Up to date DBS checks are also obtained for each Case Manager.
